What is the difference between Waterbus public transport and WaterShuttle?

Waterbus operates a fixed timetable where passengers can check in and out using their public transport card or bank card. The WaterShuttle is a tourist service with its own sailing schedule between Rotterdam and Kinderdijk.

How long does the trip from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk take?

A one-way journey takes about 30 minutes.

Is my WaterShuttle ticket valid on the Waterbus?

No, your WaterShuttle ticket is only valid on the WaterShuttle.

Is my Waterbus ticket valid for the WaterShuttle?

No, you’ll need a separate ticket for the WaterShuttle.

Can I pay with cash?

Unfortunately not. We only accept debit or contactless payments for everyone’s safety and faster boarding. You can pay with your bank card, credit card, Apple Watch, or digital payment card.

Why does the WaterShuttle only operate on weekends?

From October to mid-March, the WaterShuttle sails on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as there are fewer tourists during this period than in summer. A different timetable applies during the rest of the year.

Can I use my Waterbus Tourist Day Ticket on the WaterShuttle and to Kinderdijk?

Unfortunately not. The Tourist Day Ticket is only valid on the regular Waterbus routes.
Since 6 October 2025, Waterbus no longer operates services to Kinderdijk. This connection is now provided by WaterShuttle, a tourist line with its own sailing schedule between Rotterdam and Kinderdijk.

Where can I buy a WaterShuttle ticket?

Tickets can currently be purchased on board from the steward. Within a few weeks, online purchase via our webshop will also be available. In cooperation with Kinderdijk, we also offer a combination ticket that includes access to both the WaterShuttle and the windmills of Kinderdijk.

Can I take my bicycle or scooter on board?

Yes, that’s no problem. There are no extra costs.

Are there toilets on board?

Yes, toilets are available. Please ask the steward for assistance if needed.

Can I bring my dog on board and is there a fee?

Dogs are welcome on board if kept on a lead. There is no extra charge.

Is the WaterShuttle accessible for wheelchairs?

Yes, the WaterShuttle is wheelchair accessible, but usage is at your own responsibility.
